Verifying the bactericidal power of our materials at ALBA Synchrotron

From the 4th to the 7th of May, 2023, Prof. Maria Pau Ginebra, Dr. Judit Buxadera, PhD student Marc Iglesias and Lab Technician Patricia Armero performed an experiment at ALBA synchrotron, in Cerdanyola del Vallès.

The experiment "Understanding the bactericidal potential of nanostructured calcium phosphates" was carried out at line BL09 MISTRAL of Soft X-Ray Microscopy, with the help of the local contact from ALBA, Dr Ana Joaquina Perez.

The main objective of the experiment was to study the interaction of bacteria and the calcium phosphate topographies, search for calcium deposits and use spectromicroscopy to ellucidate the chemical nature of such deposits

The experiment is part of the PhD project of Marc Iglesias: "Bactericidal properties on calcium phosphate cements", part of the BAMBBI project.
