Dr. Renan Nunes joins BAMBBI as Visiting Researcher
Oct 09, 2025
Dr. Renan Nunes, Postdoctoral Researcher in the BioNanos&Metals group at the Federal University of ABC (Brazil), has joined BAMBBI for a year as a Visiting Researcher, in order work in the functionalization of 3D-printed calcium phosphate scaffolds with nitric oxide–releasing materials and other biologically active nanoparticles.
Dr. Renan Nunes is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the BioNanos&Metals group at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC) in Brazil and currently a Visiting Researcher in our laboratories. Since the beginning of his career, he has worked at the interface of chemistry, materials science, and biomedical engineering, focusing on nanomaterials, biomaterials, and nitric oxide–releasing platforms. His experience includes the development of various types of nanoparticles, as well as composites, hydrogels, and films for biomedical and agricultural applications.
According to the researcher, "Being part of BAMBBI allows me to combine my background in nanotechnology and nitric oxide–releasing materials with the group’s expertise in bone regeneration." During the next year, he will indeed be working on the functionalization of 3D-printed calcium phosphate scaffolds with nitric oxide–releasing materials and other biologically active nanoparticles, aiming to enhance bone regeneration and provide antimicrobial protection.
This is a very exciting opportunity for both the project and Dr. Nunes, who got funding from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) for his research stay, is conviced that "this stay represents a unique opportunity to expand my scientific horizons and work in an environment of excellence in biomaterials and tissue engineering". This grant represents "also a personal milestone (for Nunes), an experience of growth, collaboration, and cultural exchange that strengthens my vision of science as a global and collective endeavor".
